Ski Italy and More Help and FAQs
What will the weather be like in January or February?
The weather in the Trentino Region of the Italian Alps and more specifically the "Val di Sole:
area is usually sunny, dry and cold. The region also has the ability to become filled with mixed clouds and snow - a skier's paradise!
Basically same general weather conditions in the Cortina d' Ampezzo area as well. The temperature ranges from 5 to 35 degrees Fahrenheit, or a range of -15 to 1.6 degrees Centigrade.
What are the ski conditions like?
February in the past has always been the best skiing month. Conditions are not like spring
skiing. That usually doesn't occur until mid to end of March. Usually light to packed powder in January and February.
Will I need lots of clothing?
Not necessarily lots of clothing, but warm clothing, and we suggest dressing in layers.
Also, be sure to bring the long johns! Dress for evening is "ski casual," not dressy.
Will I need to bring along foreign currency?
You may want to bring some Euro Dollars with you as you will be arriving on a weekend and
most banks are closed. However, there are ATM Machines in close proximity to the Hotel. There is a bank
very close by -- only about a 2-3 minute walk which would be able to offer an exchange rate better than
the hotel would be able to. American travelers checks are accepted in Italy, as well as Visa, Master Card
and American Express. On any major purchases, the credit card will always give you the best exchange rate.
Larger establishments will accept the cards readily, although some smaller ones may not.
Can I bring along my own skis and boots, or will I need to rent them?
You are certainly welcome to bring your own equipment, and may feel more comfortable doing so.
You are allowed to take 2 pieces of checked baggage with most airlines, and one carry on. If you would
like to take skis, they will be accepted as the first piece of luggage, and you can therefore take one
more bag, and one carry on. Some airlines are now charging for all checked baggage and have weight
restrictions of between 40 to 50 Lbs. per bag, with hefty fees for any overweight bags. They ask that
they be "encased" in either cardboard case, fiberglass, or in a bag. If in a bag, they ask you to sign
a "limited release tag" limiting their liability in case of damage. If you prefer to, you can also rent
skis & boots right near the hotel, for a reasonable fee.
Ski Lessons are also available at reasonable cost. If we can answer
any questions, or provide any additional information, please feel free to call us!
